What is organisational emotional maturity?

The research is clear - empathy in business leadership is a vital driver of performance, innovation and retention.

Major studies, including global assessments by the Center for Creative Leadership and workplace reports by Catalyst prove that empathetic managers achieve higher job performance ratings, foster greater psychological safety and cut costly employee turnover.

Our Founder and Head Coach Elaine Taylor draws on decades of experience in all types of organisation - from community groups to corporate giants, public sector to private start-ups, even political parties. She combines her own high empathy leadership style, her training as an accredited EFT International EFT Practitioner and her deep understanding of human emotions and behaviours to create bespoke leadership development plans for organisations who are serious about investing in developing their own high-empathy leaders.

What’s the process?

Starting with the Immersion Phase, Elaine will carry out an empathy audit of your organisation, interviewing your leadership team, your employees and familiarising herself with your internal comms to get a sense of where your organisation is culturally. You will receive a detailed report on your strengths and opportunities where it comes to OEM, and recommendations on what actions you can take to support high-empathy behaviours where they exist, and develop them where there may be gaps.

The Coaching Phase is a tailored follow-on programme where Elaine will work one to one and in groups with you and your leadership team, providing coaching and therapy to help you connect with your own empathy, develop self-awareness and grow your confidence and emotional intelligence (EQ) in your leadership roles.

How long will it take?

The length of the process will depend on your organisation’s size, scale and existing level of OEM - as well as your capacity and desire to invest in developing high-empathy leadership.

For a small business of up to 10 employees we would expect to be able to complete the Immersion Phase in one to two days, depending on the depth to which you would like us to go, with the ongoing Coaching Phase tailored to your requirements and existing OEM levels. A highly emotionally mature start-up might be happy with a couple of hours a week of coaching; others might prefer something a bit more intensive whilst they find their feet with something new and challenging.

Larger organisations will require a longer Immersion Phase; this can be refined and agreed at consultation stage. Ideally we would be in a position to interview enough employees to establish a solid understanding of the colleague experience, and colleague perception of leadership styles and behaviours within the organisation.

For large Corporates with high employee numbers, we would recommend 1 day a week of support over 6-12 months or longer as required, giving us the time we need to develop trusting relationships, rapport and individual plans for your leadership team.

Change doesn’t happen overnight, and humans can be notoriously resistant to engaging with the kind of self-examination that develops empathy, but with the right support and experience in place, doing the work to train that muscle can be a truly transformative experience - not just professionally, but personally.
